meters, is ideal to spend a weekend. the tiny hamlet of Yanahuara is located in the sacred valley of inkas, (Urubamba province) it is the breadbasket of Cusco, with its terraced slopes sown with corn and watered by the glaciers of the great snow  peaks streams, by Yanahuara crosses a river called Wllcamayu, which was worshipped by Inkas as a “Holy River”. We lunch, and after we take a transport back to Cusco where our lares hike / lares valley hike ends.

 

Our lares hike / lares valley hike has optional extension  to Machu Picchu for additional price. From yanahuara at 20 minutes by car to Ollantaytambo (train station) from where train departs in the afternoon to Aguas Calientes and spend the night.

the lares hike / lares valley hike takes place through a hidden valley that very few outsiders have ever entered. The llama shepherds and weavers that inhabit some of the villages of this obscure place, situated trhough andean glaciers and brilliant and crystal-clear lakes and unspoiled mountain vistas, in the lares valley hike / lares trek the network of valleys is also populated by the native people. Day  1.- Cusco – Cancha cancha. - for our lares hike / lares valley hike we pick you up from your hotel at around 6 am and travel by bus for approximately 2 hours to Huaran (2840m/9317ft), a small village in the Sacred Valley and the start of the hike. We will meet our horseman and mules here and begin the beautiful hike through the lush valley, following the gentle uphill route of the Cancha Cancha River. It will take about 5 hours to reach the picturesque village of the same name where we will set up camp for the night (3800m/12467ft).

 

Day 2: Cancha cancha – Kishuarani. After breakfast, we leave the campsite and begin a steep ascent to Pachacutec Pass (4458m/14625ft) the highest point of the lares hike. From here there are spectacular views of the snow-peaked mountain, Pitusiray, Pachacutec Lake and the surrounding valleys. After the pass, we continue walking and descend into the next valley to reach Quiswarani village (3700m/12138ft) where will spend the night. Along the 2nd day of the lares hike, the scenery is breathtaking – there are glacial lakes, waterfalls and snow-peaked mountains. The lares hike / lares valley hike area is also rich in birdlife with possibility to see Andean ibis, geese and flamingoes amongst others.

 

Day 3: Kishuarani – Kuncani - Lares. We will have breakfast and start an ascent of about 3 hours to reach the Huillquik´asa Pass (4200m/13779ft) the second highest pass of the lares hike / lares valle hike. The views are impressive and worth the climb! After this, we descend towards the village of Cuncani, passing beautiful clacier lakes along the way. We continue descending after Cuncani where lunch waits anf after we arrive at Lares’ Hot Springs, and spend the night of the lares hike give at (3300m/12663ft).

 

Day 4:  Lares hike – Cusco. After breakfast, the morning will be spent some time to enjoy the hot springs for a well-deserved reward after the trek!!! From Lares we will take our transport straight to Cusco and will arrive late afternoon.
