Trekking to Misti /
Misti volcano climb
option 01:
El Misti is the symbol of the "Arequipeños" and trekking
to misti / misti volcano climb is one of the most popular
climbings in south Peru area, the people in Arequipa say that
they are mistianos because the Misti volcano is their protector.
the misti volcano climb takes 2 days but the record is about 4
hours and 20 minutes, any way a previous preparation is important
because you will arrive to 5,828 meters like 18,000 feet, so this is
not a game, the best way to climb this volcano is to visit first Cusco, Puno or
Bolivia on that way you will be previously acclimatized to the altitude.
Trekking to misti / misti volcano climb is an amazing hike,
as much for its interesting geological formations as for its
magnificent views. The last eruption had registered more than 500
years ago, and the view of the crater is spectacular, and can be
safely viewed from up close. whe you climb misti volcano there is a
possibility to find find snow, but this doesn't much along year, but sometimes is completely covered,
so people in Arequipa
says "el volcano Misti se ha vestido" (had dressed up),
the trekking to misti or misti volcano climb goes trough a path all the way, so is not necessary to have
experience but it’s important to know that is a strong hike up, so
you have to be in a good shape to do it, in special for the ash and
sand that press the climbers to walk up in zigzags.

Misti volcano climb Trip Program:
Misti Day 1:
Our 4wd vehicle picks you up from your hotel and two hours later we
arrive at the base of Misti (3300 meters) from here we start the
trekking to misti / misti volcano climb. The landscape changes dramatically with increasing
altitude due to the different stresses on the plant life. We camp at
4700 meters. The view of Arequipa city at night is amazing, and the
view of the starts is spectacular, here at our camp the professional
mountain guide provides you with hot soup and at the same time he
tells the different fairy tails of the Apus Misti, Chachani and
Pichu Pichu.
Misti Day 2:
Very early we have breakfast including mate de coca (this tea made
from coca leaves which helps with the effects of altitude), after
this we start the 6 hours climb to the Misti summit. The top is an
incredible look out point you can see the Chachani Mountain and the
Pichu Pichu volcano, the water dam of Aguada Blanca, Salinas Lake,
and Arequipa city, if is a clear summer day you even can see the
pacific ocean far deep, we also see the perfect conic shade of the
El Misti projected on the Arequipa city but the very best is the
enormous crater of Misti volcano; if is tuff to hike up El Misti is
very easy to slide down , which is comprised mostly of sand and the
ash which cushions your steps and allows you to stop easily when you
need to. We pack up our tents and then keep descending couple of

Misti volcano climb
option 02:
By Aguada Blanca (dam)
Second Option
the trekking to misti / misti volcano climb has two option with inka
challenge peru, in this progam we drive to Aguada Blanca national reserve by 4wd vehicle at 4,000m
altitude. We begin the climb at 4,000m and hike up to 4,800m, which
is an easier option than starting the hike at 3,300m up to the base
camp. This is a protected national reserve where we can appreciate
vicuñas, viscachas, andean cara cara, guanacos and possibly condors.
Then we have to cross the Aguada Blanca dam, where we need a special
permit from the government (which is the reason we need your passport
and names on advance). This entrance is only authorized to
legitimate agencies like Us: be careful when
choosing an agency as some agencies don't have the authority to
enter the national reserve (and cross the Dam). If you choose an
unauthorized agency you will not be able to enter the reserve. That
is why you should take our service.
Misti Volcano day 1:
We pick you up at your hotel at 9.00 am and drive by Cabrerias in
the slopes of the impressive mount Chachani (6,080m) then we cross
the Aguada Blanca bridge and finally our 4wd van drops you off at
4,100m altitude. From here we start our trekking to misti or misti
volcano climb;
we have to pass very beautiful ash dunes. Arriving to our base camp
at Mount Blanc after 3 or 4 hours of climbing at an altitude of
4,750m, we set our base camp located at the east face of Misti
volcano looking over the Aguada Blanca dam. We have dinner which is
cooked by our guide and we go to bed early for get ready for the next
day.
Day 2:
After an early breakfast before sunrise, as we are on the East side
of Misti where we will observe the most beautiful sunrise of
Peru (impossible in option 1) then we walk from the East face to the
North face, arriving to the north face on top of Misti after a 5
hour climb.. Arriving at 8 or 9 am on top of Misti, we can
appreciate the spectacular view of the crater and the "big metal
cross" (5m in height) at the top, we will be here for approx. 30
minutes to appreciate the amazing view from the top of El Misti.
From here, we are able to appreciate the complete volcanic mountain
range in order. From South to North in this order, Ubinas
volcano(smoking in the last 2 years), Pichu Pichu, Chachani, Ampato,
and Coropuna ( we do not see Sabancaya and Walka Walka clearly
because these volcanoes are hidden in back of Chachani) After this
great experience we start climbing down the slope and at times we
have the sensation of sliding down because of the loose sand and
ash, making it a very enjoyable experience. The normal time to get
back to the base camp climbing down is approx. one hour. After
arriving to our base camp, we pick up our tents and return by 4wd
around 12 pm. arriving approximately at 2 pm at Arequipa. We will
bring you at your hotel or any other place in the city.
