Tumibamba to Ollantaytambo

This tour is the  best new trail to Machu Picchu, the best new  trek of Cusco, known only by couple tour guides,  leading by the heard land of the Andes, where  you can absolutely be involved in a quiet and  pure nature, the trail joins nature and culture,  lots of glaciers, lakes, blue color mounts and  white appearing to be glaciers in some section,  the icchu or mountain straws are part of the  everyday landscape. The trail leads by the ancient Inca trail which was connecting Cusco and Machu Picchu, it joins to the traditional 4days Inca trail in the 3rd day so this means that in a hike you will enjoy double.

 

Trip Itinerary:

Day 01: Cusco -  Zurite - Yanacocha.-  Early morning we pass  through your hotel and transfer to depart Cusco,  a nice asphalted route is the entire distance to  Zurite which takes about 50 minutes of journey  where we will meet our porters or muleteers  quechua speaking guys; who complete our  team. once get ready the trail will lead us up  through inca terraces, farms of corns and  potatoes, and see inka´s carved rock in a shape  of throne, the we will continue; through  eucalyptus forest, while we continue the  scenery will be more panoramic, the trail;  goes up hill by an slope and after 3.5 hours we  will arrive to a place named llama-cancha (fence  where in a rock lama head was painted by the  inka artists, from this site is also possible to  see in the horizon Cusco’s main apus (holy  mounts) Salkantay,  

Huak´ay huillca; Veronica;  and Ausangate, in about 1 more hour we will pass the high pint of the day, and down nearby an  stream we will lunch. after lunch there are  about 3 more hours of hike to the camp site, the  trails disappears only our expert guides knows  which way to follow, we will arrive to hatun  pampa (big flat) surrounded by beautiful  mountains and arrive at the; Yanacocha lake,  lake which has many legends and considered holy by the villagers, we will camp nearby at 4,200 masl.

Day 02: Yanacocha - Kenqo mayu - Ancascocha.  we will wake up  little later because this day will be easier  because there is small pass only at one hour  from the camp site, also nice section as the  first day, but more colorful mountains, where  we can see andean ibis, herons, torrent ducks,  and the smart andean fox waiting his lunch  sheep and many caracara eagles. After 2 hours  we will arrive in to a nice highland

valley a place named Kenqo mayu (zigzag river),  glacier water following ; the valley and  place where some shepherds leave they; have  hundreds of sheep, our lunch will be at the end  of the zigzagging river.

 

After lunch we will  still continue downhill and after follow the  ancient trail, there is coming little up-hill  section ; which will lead us until the place  named ascaqocha, we will arrive to our camp spot  at around 4.00 pm where near to the glacier  mount ; and river stream we will camp.

Day 03: Kenqo Mayu Chanca Chucu.- This is a  relax day, the trail leads banking river kenqo mayu,  a large distance of downhill, where you can see  eagles, sheep herders, caws and horses, the trails  is surrounded by snow capped mounts and colorful  ones, the lunch will be at the river bank. After lunch the trail is up hill for about 3.5 hours until chanca chucu where we camp near a nice inca fence for animals.

Day  04: Chanca Chucu - Inka´s stone quarry (cachi qáta) - Cusco.-  Another beautiful day will be waiting for, at the beginning we  have downhill and after a nice little canyon we will follow a trail  down under inca channel, the trail is up hill , looks like really  difficult but we have time; So after about 3 hours of hike we can  reach the famous inca´s stone quarry at the mountain cachi qáta (salt - slope), the site is just big, carved stones where ready to transport,  and of curse at the site we are going to see inca building and tombs,  after this we will descend and lunch, after we need still to hike;  for 1 more hour to get our transport and back to Cusco, or take the  optional train to Agua Calientes to visit Machu Picchu

  • Complete Meals during trip, (breakfast is provided each day with the following available, “milk coffee tea coca tea, bread, butter and jam pancakes scrambled eggs, salad and oatmeal”, lunch is provided with typical Andean food. Dinner every day which includes Chicken, Beef or lamb, fish with Potatoes rice, pepper or other such main dishes. Snacks are provided (fruit chocolate candies or sandwiches).
