Cusco ancascocha trek; is part of our cusco new hikes, it takes by impressive mountains of the southern Andes, a new trekking trail in cusco region, trekking tour that is advised specially for people who loves nature and hike on a trail that is out of the tourist crowdie trails. Amongst the new Peru trekking tours, it is one of our favorite treks, the area is inhabited by only few locals, who still keep many inca customs, a well preserved nature that provides a opportunity to find yourself.
The cusco ancascocha Trek, is offered by only few companies, the ancascocha area also has several trails, we hike by the most scenic trail that is not used by the other hikers, except the last section, it give us the advantage such providing unique itineraries, hike by a well preserved trail, see the colorful ancascocha lake, the wild fauna and flora of the area, the snow-covered picks such as (Salkantay, Mountain 6.271m.a.s.l. Humantay, Huayanay, etc), we also are going to walk on an original Inca trail “the main trail to Machu Picchu which not used by the traditional 4 days inca trail hikers”. Day 01: Cusco – Marco Ccasa – Salkantay Pampa: The fantastic ancascocha trek, begins with the meet up in your hotel, drive to the trail start point at “05:00 am”, before arriving to Marco ccasa, after two hours of drive we’ll stop at Mollepata, that is the last village on the way, then we continue to marco ccasa which has an impressive landscape view, “only few people start at this point”, 99% of hikers will start at mollepata, and follow different path. the trail begins by an slightly uphill path, along the way it is common to see lush vegetation and native birds, then the trail arrives in to a gentle section, from where you get a wide view, at arriving to a lookout point you will be amazed by the view of salkantay mount. At 13:00 hours, we arrive to Soraypampa where we lunch, after lunch the trail continues by a narrow valley towards to salkantay pampa, it is a quiet camp ground where we set up our tents and spend the night in a quiet camp over 4,000m.
Day 02: Salkantay pampa – inca chiriaska – Toqtoqasa. The cooler morning temperatures will be excellent to ascend and summit the highest, toughest part of cusco ancascocha trek. after breakfast we re-start our walk, by an uphill trail to Inkachiriasca “the highest pass, 5.100 m”, from this point we can over view the amazing landscapes of the area, such the closely impetuous snow-capped salkantay , passing this place we will take a non frequented trail, we get Toqtoqasa by an easy downhill, then we continue by narrow and straw covered trail, this takes approximately four hours to the camp site, which is at 3900m.a.s.l.
Day 03: Toqto q´asa – Occoruro: After early breakfast we will re initiate our beautiful walk. From breakfast we start a gentle uphill path, then it goes by a downhill path by straw grass, the landscapes are beautiful as usual, we may see villages very far on the hills with the shinny metal ruffs. All the journey is about 7 hours walk, ff we are lucky we can observe the, flight of condors, that they come from time to time, but for sure we will see: eagles and many Andean animals; our camp site is in a really quiet and cozy place that is surrounded by mountains at 3,800m. At around 19 hours we serve delicious hot soup, followed by the main course. After dinner you can spend some time outside watching the shooting stars, then sleep.
Day 04: Occoruro – Accocasa – wayanay – anacascocha: After nutritious breakfast we start our journey towards the Accoqasa pass 4700m, all the trail is uphill and takes about three hour, the summit offer a great wide 360º view, place from where we can see using binocular the famous Inca trail which leads to Machu picchu, mountain glacier mounts such as Salkantay, Humantay. From here a gentle path lead us to the lunch place. After lunch there is another pass, it is the Huayanay pass which is at 4600m, from where we can see the famous Huacaywillka “veronica” (Sacred Tears), from here the trail leads by the old inca trail that is well preserved, down below we will see a blue color lagoon named ancascocha (reason why our program is named ancascocha trek), here we’ll see some torrent ducks, Huallatas (Andean geese = Chloephaga melanoptera) and many others that migrates from different places. Then following the inca trail we arrive to our camp that is at a stream in a quiet camp where we may be the only hikers.
Day 5: Ancascocha – Chillca – Cusco: The final part of the cusco ancascocha trek, begins with a nutritious breakfast, we walk the last part, which we consider the easy part, the trail follows the bank of Qenqo mayu to the sacred valley, it takes about 5 hours. We’ll arrive to Chillca which is a settlement at the end of the sacred valley. Along this section we will observe its typical vegetation, trees such as: chachacoma, qewña, some orchids, begonias, and bromeliads that adorns the trail, at the end of the trail we will have our lunch. After lunch our transport will pick us up and drive us back to Cusco city, we arrive at around 17:00 hours, we will bring you back to your hotel where ends our fantastic ancascocha trekking. Optionally we can extend our tour to Machu Picchu by train from ollantaytambo, to upgrade to this option write us and we can send you a rate that will include one night in a hotel.
