Huchuy qosqo trek, is a day program departing from Cusco, to huchuy qosqo archaeological site, a fascinating place located at the mountains above the sacred valley, an excellent hike used as training for large tour programs that reaches high elevations. The trail has a medium elevation which pass is at 14, 270 feet, and ends at the sacred valley which is at 9,670 feet. The hike offers: captivating scenic landscape view, of vilcanota glacier mountains, clear water lakes, stunning sacred valley view from the heights, opportunity to see llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat, country villages settled in ravines, and a good opportunity to buy good quality alpaca handmade textiles, from the makers.

It is a non-frequented trail, also possible to make it in 02 days program, starting at different point. But why it is so important? Because huchuy qosqo is an inca city built on the XV century, the archaeological site was recently excavated by the Peruvian archaeologist, they fixed up some walls at the citadel, found inca mummies. Now that the place has been cleared, it shows an impressive and captivating citadel, which is protected by the Peruvian lows.

According the last regional news, is fact that in the future, it is going to be easier to get there, because there will be built up a funicular or cable car; but by now, the best option to reach huchuy qosqo, is the day hike. Huchuy Qosqo Hike “Cusco day hike Itinerary”

Our fascinating huchuy qosqo trek begins, with picking up our hikers form their hotel at 7:00am, then we drive our private transport towards Chinchero, from the main route we take a non-asphalted road, for about 10 minutes and finally arrive to Tauca Village. Once arriving to the village, we will find villagers who will offer us their incredible handmade textiles to buy, then we beginning our hike. We follow a trail used by the sheepherder’s to grace their llamas, the trail is gentle uphill amongst a beautiful mountain scenery.

the trail offers a nice view of llamas and alpacas, after about one hour and a half the trail turns in to more steeper and leads to the summit of the hike, and after about 3 hour walk we reach the mountain pass at 4300meters. At this point the view is fantastic and provide wide angle, while we enjoy the view we can have our snacks and break for some minutes.

After our pleasant break, we continue hiking and start descending for an approximately 2 hrs. And finally reach the Inca archaeological site of “Huchuy Qosqo”.  At the place we can seat down and have our box lunch, after lunch our guide will show you the entire site. The site has many buildings of 2-levels, at the place the time seems that stopped since inca times, there is a magic sensation while walking at the site, couple years ago archaeologists found mummies of the incas which are possible to see. After a fantastic tour we continue descending to Lamay, where we end our huchuy qosqo day hike. We catch our private transport and drive back to Cusco and arrive at around 18.00 hours.

Day 01. Cusco – huchuy qosqo: The wonderful hike huchuy qosqo machu picchu, begins with pick up from your hotel and transfer out to Tambo machay village, from where we’ll begin our hike. The trail is very gentle for the first 30 minutes, then it turn in to uphill, while we gane elevation we can observe the cusco valley, houses and farmlands, then we will summit a point where we will be able break and have our snacks, then continue by a land from where we won’t see any more the Cusco valley, only nature will escort us by grassy trail, still uphill and finally get the high point from where we will be able to see a lagoon, the trail is flat, and at nearby llamas are opportunity for pictures, we can approach to a hill top from where we can see the land of chinchero and its lakes, then after some time we can reach the highest point to the hike, the trail leads downhill and reaches an small village of only 4 houses named Pukamarca “red-town” these are alpacas and llama sheepherders homes”, we’ll lunch and after that we will reach in to a well preserved inca trail that leads in to a canyon named Leon punku “Gate of Lion”, it is a wonderful section where you will be able to see some native flowers, and amazing landscape, a gentle downhill leads to a place from where we can see the sacred valley, villages and farmlands are going to reward us from a long walk, then following the inca trail we will arrive to Huchuy qosqo where we can camp and spend the night over 3600m, we have done by then 18 km, in about 8 hours).

Day 2. huchuy qosqo – machu picchu: You will wake up with our tent service coca leafs tea, then after packing you stuffs, we will breakfast at an open air spot, nutritious breakfast made by our expert trekking chef, then you will go for a tour of the site, huchuy qosqo is an amazing archaeological site with terraces, high quality architecture and surrounded by magnificent landscape, after some time walking on this place, you will continue the trek, the trail leads in to a narrow switch-backs trail to the sacred valley, after about 4 hours of walk, you will reach the bottom of the valley, then crossing the Urubamba river we will stop for lunch, then our transport will lead us to Ollantaytambo where we take train to machu picchu town and spend the night. (The trek n this day is medium challenge, that will be done in about 5 hours, where we will cover 10 km “6 miles).

Day 3: Visit to Machu Picch and return to Cusco: In order to avoid the crowds we advise early departure, Our guide will meet you at your hotel front desk and take you to machu picchu by 30 minutes bus, then once passing control you will do a walk to the inca bridge and enjoy the fascinating view of the bridge and the valley down below, once you return to the park, the guide will show you all the sectors of Machu Picchu, you will visit the sun temple, the 3 windows temple, the guard house, the inca house, and all wonderful sites that are seeing in the pictures, after about 3 hours of tour you will take bus back to aguas calientes and have lunch. After lunch you can walk by the town or shop at the artisans market, then return to ollanta by train and finally to Cusco in our private transport where our huchuy qosqo Machu Picchu tour ends.
