Colca canyon tour: Colca Canyon is located in Arequipa Region in Peru, on the volcanoes canyon in southern Peru. It is located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Arequipa, the Colca canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world at 10,725 ft. (3,269 m), it is more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States.

The Cotahuasi Canyon nearby to the northwest is referred to as being a deeper canyon at 11,488 ft. (3,501 m). Since they are such major features of the landscape, (Colca and Cotahuasi canyons are both easily recognizable in even low-resolution satellite photos of the region).

The Colca Valley, is a colorful region, where you can see several towns, that was inhabited since ancient time, where pre incas and incas build terraces for farming that spaniards took advantage. the Collaguas and the Cabanas, are the main inhabitants in the region, friendly people, who didn’t lose their ancestral traditions, and continue wearing colorful handmade clothes.

The colca area is also well known by they textiles making, and you can have the opportunity to buy some souvenirs, at the condor observatory; every village is clearly identifiable, because of their clothes, each town ahs unique patterns and colors.

AT our Colca trip, the main attraction is the observation of the condors, for which there is a nice condor observatory spot; you will enjoy as well the view of the terraces that were built hundreds of years ago, the villagers who have inherited them, are still cultivating these terraces with native crops.

Itinerary

Day 1Day 01: Arequipa – Chivay.

The program begins at around 08:00 am, then depart towards north-west, behind snow-covered chachani, Yura, small valley with thermal springs, see wild vicuñas in pampa cañahuas national reserve, alpacas & llamas in tocra, some birds like flamingos, ibis, andean goose, ducks, andean eagle “kara kara”, and mountains in patapampa (4800 m, 15,000ft), see the ampato, sabancaya, walca walca, etc.

Chivay is the capital of the colca valley. in the afternoon visit to the thermal springs as well as the hot-pools in la Calera. (Admission to the polls not included, about us$2.00 each person), Overnight al Colca lodge or similar. (Lunch and Dinner are provided.

Day 2:Day 02: Colca Canyon. 

Early morning after breakfast, depart for a full day excursion by the left shore, and see beautiful typical towns, like yanque and maca, colonial churches, gentle people, dressed up with typical needlework clothes, we’ll observe hundreds of terraces, that are still in use with,native crops like corn, quinoa, kiwicha, (amaranth), vegetables, etc.

finally reach the cross of condor look out, from where you also can observe canyon’s deepness, and condors soar “flight of condors”. After time for lunch, enjoying the views, then there is time catch our return transport,  and arrive to Arequipa at around 18.00 hrs.
